Audience research

Audience Research

Every individual text has a target audience. A target audience is Particular group of people, identified as the intended recipient of an advertisement, text, TV show etc. Also called target population which is the audience we are making the product for. A target audience has specific features to appeal to their target audience. Due to the purpose of the product and who it affects and having an intended targets we have to consider the content ro make it suitable. Target audience specifies age e.g. PG, 12, 15, 18. These then signify whether this specific product is appropriate or legal.

Considering presentation is important because my target audience must be appealed and interested in my product. This means it must be attractive to the audience and will the content be understood. This then refers to the colour, do your colours give off positive connotations to its target audience, and in addition will it be perceived in the way the producer intends.

My target audience’ requirements have to be very detailed by using the right conventions for it to appeal to them. Gender is another way of classifying but as I am focusing on a group the gender is not. The interests of men and women differ and advertisers have to consider how they are presenting their product to allow it to be noticed. The most common assumption is that women find shopping interesting whereas technology interests men. Whether this is true differs between the individual, making it harder for the advertiser to ensure that it appeals directly to the intended audience.

Audience Theory

Audience Theory

The term ‘Target Audience’ is for producers who produce their product for a certain age, ethnic group, or group. A producer’ ‘Target Audience’ has to appeal to people he is aiming it at so they can watch it. Media producers have to identify their target audience during the early stages of production because it affects the content of the media. Every media text is produced with the intended reader in mind. The reason for a target audience is because not everybody shares the same interests.

Gender plays a massive role in classifying target audience because it is the most obvious way to categorise. Male and female attractions are very different so the differ in the audience’ preference is obvious. Men and women do not usually share the same attractions, it is a stereotypical analysis but if they are not true, they wouldn’t be stereotypes. The only problem with stereotypes is that they are not always true for all individual cases. They are generalizations. For example; most gossip magazines are created with a target audience of women whereas most magazines in relation to cars are created with a target audience of men, although they can relate to both it’s just a generalisation.
